Another fest here in Athens, another couch set aflame in the middle of the street. The Post and the Athens NEWS both have coverage, take your pick. Normally I would pass on this story because around here it’s about as typical as your standard “dog bites man” article, but I think I’ll actually chime in.
What are you people thinking? Do you even realize how stupid this was? By setting that couch on fire, you might as well have been handing the Athens City Council pen and paper with which to write the ordinance that will ban every single fest that we have all come to know and love. You’re lucky they didn’t do it when you caused the “near-riot” at Palmer Fest last spring. But now you do it again? And not only that, but you do it on Parents’ Weekend, thus providing both the university and the city with the maximum embarrassment possible. Great job!
Because of your actions, there’s a good possibility that spring quarter will roll around and it will be just like every other quarter. There might not be any Oak Fest, Mill Fest, Palmer Fest, etc., because you morons decided setting furniture on fire — you know, risking people’s property and lives — was just too much fun to resist. All you’re doing with your ridiculous antics is proving to the university, to the city, and to law enforcement that students can’t be trusted to drink and remain socially responsible. If you want your school to stay a party school, you might want to rethink that strategy.
